Professional chess instructor "Coach Curtis" will be teaching chess rules and beginner level strategy. There will also be plenty of time to play and practice. No experience necessary and all chess supplies will be provided. There will be two groups: kids group is for ages 6 - 14 and the teens and adults group is for 15+. Coach Curtis is a veteran tournament player and has coached individual players and school teams to compete on the state and national levels over the last 12 years. Many research studies over the past 100 years have shown over and over that there are long term benefits to kids who learn and play chess in terms of both IQ and EQ. The popularity of chess here in America and around the world is growing. Come and check it out!

Classes - Year round (beginning in Sept. 2021)

We offer a variety of computer classes.
We also have one-to-one sessions to help adults learn about the Internet, email, typing documents, spreadsheets, and social media.  We even offer classes on how to use that new smartphone.
There are one-on-one sessions to help learn how to use the Oklahoma Virtual Library to download books to tablets, laptops, phones, and computers using the Overdrive or Libby for Overdrive apps.
See the Databases page for more learning opportunities.

The library provides large print fiction, audiobooks, and movies for several nursing homes.  If you know of a nursing home or assisted living that would be interested in setting up this service please call or come by to see Jami.  We also provide donated materials to the Health Department for their "Children's Corner", Durant Main Street for their "free library" in the downtown pocket park, and other organizations who need reading materials.
